Tom Kovach (rhymes with "watch") was born in 1958. He joined the US Air Force at age 17, and served on two periods of active duty (Aug 1975 to May 1985, and Apr 1989 to Nov 1991). He achieved the grade of staff sergeant, and served most of that time as a law enforcement supervisor. He was also a search-and-rescue Ranger instructor and commander in the all-volunteer Civil Air Patrol.

Tom has a degree in criminal justice and a paralegal certificate. He has written reports (including investigative) and columns for prominent online news outlets.
